Time devoted to live TV, digital video, and music streaming all increased.
In Q1 2021, the share of Taiwan’s internet users who watched live TV in the previous month was essentially the same as in H1 2020, at 79.2%. However, internet users spent 1 hour, 37 minutes (1:37) per day, on average, with live TV in H1 2021—compared with 1:26 in 2020.
Nearly two-thirds (64.0%) of internet users had watched TV broadcasters’ catch-up services in the month prior as of Q1 2021. This share, too, was virtually identical to the H1 2020 figure. There was a slight increase in the proportion of respondents who recorded TV shows to watch later.
Penetration of subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) services like Netflix leaped from 37.3% in H1 2020 to 48.1% in Q1 2021—though this share remained lower than in many other countries.
