US wireless data use skyrockets, signaling need for network improvements

The news: People in the US consumed a record-breaking 100 trillion megabytes of wireless data in 2023, a 36% YoY increase according to the Cellular Telephone Industries Association’s (CTIA) 2024 Annual Wireless Industry Survey.

This surge in data consumption added 26 trillion MB over 2022’s total, highlighting the growing demand for data as new technologies come into play.

Wireless connections also increased, to 558 million—a 6% YoY rise from 2022.
