The NFL’s foreign ambitions could create another lucrative rights package

The news: The NFL wants to expand its international series from five this year and eight in 2025 to a full 16-game season, per Front Office Sports, in a bid to increase the sport’s international popularity and secure another lucrative foreign rights package.

Commissioner Roger Goodell also hinted at a potential overseas Super Bowl.

International ascension: Last year, the NFL accounted for 93 of the top 100 most-viewed broadcasts in the US, per Nielsen. Its extremely high viewership, national reach, and capacity to tap into local markets has made it the most valuable ad inventory and broadcast item in the country.
