Microsoft ignites nuclear power to sustain AI’s hunger for energy

The news: Microsoft is purchasing carbon-free energy produced from Three Mile Island, the site of the worst nuclear disaster in US history, to power its AI data centers.

  • Constellation Energy announced plans to revive its Unit 1 reactor by 2028, pending regulatory approval. 
  • Once cleared, it will supply nuclear energy only to Microsoft’s AI data centers. It’s by far Microsoft’s largest power purchase to date.
