Most US Parents Believe Virtual/Distance Learning Will Hinder Their Child’s Success

As debates flare over the potential reopening of schools and universities this fall,63% of US parents at least somewhat disagree that their child would be just as successful with virtual/distance learning compared to traditional/classroom learning, per July 2020 data from CivicScience.

Just 26% of US parents at least somewhat agree that their child would be just as successful with virtual/distance learning. The shift to remote learning due to the pandemic has caused a slew of problems. Students from low-income families are struggling with a lack of internet access, teachers are finding it difficult to deliver personalized instruction, and many children aren’t socializing like they would in a classroom.
