The news: LinkedIn is the latest social networking service to face fines in the EU for significant breaches of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
- Ireland’s Data Protection Commission (DPC) fined the Microsoft-owned platform €310 million ($335.5 million).
- The DPC determined LinkedIn’s tracking ads violated rules on “lawfulness, fairness, and transparency.” Its use of “consent” and “legitimate interests” for behavioral ads was also ruled invalid.
