The news: HP will acquire Humane, maker of the beleaguered Ai Pin, for $116 million in a deal expected to close by the end of this month. HP will obtain Humane’s IP and patents, its AI-powered CosmOS platform, and some employees.
All Ai Pins will be bricked by February 28, and Humane no longer sells the $499 devices or accessories on its website. All support and access to Humane’s servers, as well as all consumer data, will be permanently deleted.
What’s in it for HP: It gets a ready-made AI solution in CosmOS and Humane’s 300 AI patents and patent applications—with minimal investment. Remaining Humane employees will become part of HP IQ, a new HP AI innovation lab.
