Halloween shoppers look for opportunities to save

The forecast: Consumers will spend $11.6 billion on Halloween this year, down about 5% year over year (YoY) from last year’s record $12.2 billion, per the National Retail Federation.

  • The average shopper celebrating the holiday will spend $103.63, down 4.3% YoY.
  • Consumers are increasingly focused on value, which is why roughly 2 in 5 shoppers (37%) plan to buy Halloween items from discount stores this year, outpacing the share who plan to shop at specialty Halloween or costume shops (33%) and online (33%).
