The news: Less than a month after Alphabet Inc. announced it rebuilt Google Shopping “from the ground up with AI,” Google is rolling out several new features to establish itself as a retail hub.
The details:
- In-store shoppers can use Google Lens to find product information and shopper reviews, see if a store’s price is competitive, and view similar products that are in stock. The feature is currently available with beauty products, toys, and electronics at retailers that share their local inventory with Google.
- In the coming weeks, it will roll out a Maps feature that lets a shopper search for an item directly in Maps and find nearby stores selling it. The tool will span categories including home goods, electronics, and clothing.
