Gen Z’s love-hate relationship with social media deepens

The news: Despite spending more time on social media than other generations, Gen Z adults have mixed feelings about social platforms and their use, per a recent Harris Poll survey.

  • Nearly half of Gen Z adults say they wish TikTok (47%), Snapchat (43%), and X (50%) had never been invented—yet, 47% say they use social media for 2 to 4 hours per day.
  • 83% reported taking steps to distance themselves from social media, such as turning off in-app notifications, deleting accounts, or muting and unfollowing certain users.
