Gen Zers actively use digital health tools but hesitate to share medical data with their doctors

The trend: Most consumers now use a range of digital health tools to access care, track health metrics, and share medical data with clinicians. But significant generational differences influence how people use healthcare technology and engage with digital health activities, according to Rock Health’s Consumer Adoption of Digital Health Survey of 8,032 US adults in late 2024.

The topline findings across all age groups:

  • 66% are willing to share medical data with a clinician.
  • 58% have used virtual care in the past year.
  • 54% track at least one health metric digitally.
  • 53% own a wearable or connected health device.

Below, we unpack the survey findings on digital health usage across generations in three areas: telehealth, connected health devices, and health data sharing.
