The news: Facebook is trying to attract content creators and influencers back as parent company Meta jumps into costly new endeavors like robotics and undersea cables.
That includes offering more financial incentives such as a “Breakthrough” bonus that offers new creators up to $5,000 to get started and asking for feedback from top social media influencers such as YouTuber MrBeast, per The Information.
Analyst take: “Facebook hasn’t been where the cool college kids hang out for a long time, and it’s hard to imagine that the app will regain the cultural relevance it once had. But Meta must try: Facebook needs to continue growing, especially among young people, to support Meta’s ad business, which funds the company’s bigger bets in AI and the metaverse,” EMARKETER principal analyst Jasmine Enberg said.
