Social networks are a familiar and relatively mature form of media nearly everywhere in the world. This saturation often means that new users are hard to find. But penetration among the major platforms still greatly varies, particularly on a country-by-country basis. Here are five charts that encapsulate the state of social network usage worldwide.
Over 80% of the world’s internet users are on a social network—and by 2026, over 50% of the total population will use one at least once per month. However, top-line user growth will be very slow from now on. This year’s 2.7% increase will be the lowest since our tracking began in 2009. In the coming years, that rate will be even lower.
