Data Drop: 5 Charts on Back-to-School Retail Sales

Parents began school shopping a bit earlier once again this year, and they’re looking for deals. Our US back-to-school (BTS) sales forecast expects modest 2.9% growth this year, so we’ve compiled five charts on the 2023 shopping season to take a look at when and where consumers are shopping and how they are looking to save and pay for this year’s BTS season.

July continues to be the marker of the start to BTS.

• 62% of respondents to LTK’s Back-to-School Shopper study indicated they will have started their school shopping by July, versus 58% in 2022.
• Only 38% of respondents intend to begin shopping in August or later.
