As creators have diversified beyond social media, digital audio has become an important channel to engage with audiences and generate revenues. Podcast-first creators have also hit the mainstream, making revenues from advertising and sponsorship deals—and using social media to drive listenership.
We expect US creators to generate $1.49 billion in digital audio revenues in 2024. That equates to just 10.9% of the $13.70 billion creators will earn on social media this year, but it’s up from $610 million in 2020. And those figures aren’t mutually exclusive. For example, we consider any revenues generated by creators via YouTube Podcasts to be social media revenues. Plenty of podcasters also post video clips of their recordings on social platforms, where they can be monetized.
