The news: We are on the ground at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), which runs Tuesday through Friday in Las Vegas and highlights the latest in tech.
As the show gets underway, here are some of our predictions for the tech that will likely take off in 2025.
Wearables: Last year might have been the year of the smart ring, but we expect smart glasses will finally get their shot this year, giving Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses some serious competition.
Looktech AI Glasses, TCL RayNeo AR glasses, and Even G1 Digital Glasses will all make an appearance in CES exhibits, but you can bet there will be many more.
Rabbit and Humane learned the hard way last year that the world isn’t ready to give up their phones. Expect more devices that complement smartphones rather than any tech that hopes to replace them.
Buzzword of the year: “Neural” is everywhere—Mudra Link neural wristband, Neural Lab’s AirTouch, Innatera’s Spiking Neural Processor, and the AfferenceRing neural haptic ring. Blending wearables with spatial computing is the next frontier.
Dud prediction: Lenovo’s roll-up computers. While expandable screens might be a great concept, there’s likely not an audience clamoring for a laptop screen that extends upward, essentially turning it into portrait mode. A screen that expands to the sides might have been a better bet.
We’ll keep you posted on the biggest news from CES through the week, but check back next week for our wrap-up of what caught our eye at the show.
