Creative stacks in flux: Canva ups the ante in AI design race

The news: Canva is ramping up its competition with Adobe by launching new generative AI (genAI) tools aimed squarely at enterprise customers and creative marketing teams, per Bloomberg.

Canva’s conversation-based features allow users to generate presentations, edit photos, resize designs, and even code websites or apps—all via text or voice commands. Demonstrating AI innovation and competition is critical to Canva’s IPO plans.

Canva offers limited free access (e.g., 500 Magic Edit uses per month), with unlimited features for Pro and Teams users—directly targeting Adobe Firefly, which is also available for free, but offers a $9.99 plan to make 2,000 images. However, some Canva users have reported a limit of 100 text-to-image generations per day for some AI tools, which resets every 24 hours.
