Ben & Jerry’s sues parent Unilever for muzzling its Palestinian rights advocacy

The news: Ben & Jerry’s is accusing its parent company Unilever of violating the companies’ agreement to allow the subsidiary to set its own social mission, per a suit filed Wednesday in the US Southern District of New York.

  • The ice cream brand claims that Unilever stopped it from publicly calling for a ceasefire in Gaza, on four separate occasions.
  • It also alleges the consumer packaged goods company prevented Ben & Jerry’s social activism managers from posting on social media in support of Palestinians fleeing the conflict.
