Banks can help Gen Zers better navigate ‘financial infidelity’

The findings: Gen Zers are the most likely to keep financial secrets from their partners—most commonly, overspending. That’s according to a recent survey of 2,217 US adults commissioned by Bankrate and conducted by YouGov in December 2024.

By the numbers: Over 2 in 3 Gen Zers in committed relationships have carried out “financial infidelity,” versus 54% of millennials, 33% of Gen Xers, and 30% of baby boomers.

Of Gen Zers who live with their partners, 63% believe financial infidelity is at least “as bad” as other types of infidelity.
