Apple’s child safety rules raise compliance questions

The news: Apple is revising child safety measures in the App Store with a new Declared Range API that will allow developers to request approximate age ranges for Child Account users with parental approval, per 9to5Mac.

The new system, which is rolling out later this year, will rely on “share age range” notifications rather than requiring government ID verification.

Granular age restrictions: Apple is tightening age restrictions (4+, 9+, 13+, 16+, 18+), limiting content for youth accounts and giving parents streamlined, preset safety controls for age-appropriate experiences.
