Apple’s AI push stumbles: iPhone 16 launches without key Apple Intelligence features

The news: Apple unveiled its AI-capable iPhones running on new Apple Silicon A18 hardware at its “It’s Glowtime” event Monday.

  • These are the first iPhones built around Apple Intelligence, the company’s umbrella for multimodal on-device generative AI (genAI) features.
  • The new iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models are set to ship September 20 but without Apple Intelligence, which is coming as a beta in October.
