Anthropic’s Claude Enterprise takes on OpenAI with business-focused AI capabilities

The news: Anthropic introduced its Claude Enterprise service—an AI chatbot subscription plan aimed at businesses to intensify competition with OpenAI’s ChatGPT Enterprise and similar services.

  • Anthropic says Claude is capable of analyzing uploads of hundreds of sales transcripts, dozens of 100+ page documents, or 200,000 lines of code.
  • “Early customers have used Claude Enterprise across a variety of tasks and stages of work, from brainstorming to streamlining internal processes to creating and translating content to writing code,” it said.

Addressing enterprise AI concerns: Anthropic is doubling down on its safe generative AI (genAI) guardrails, such as suppressing unsafe output, to appeal to businesses.

  • The Claude Enterprise plan covers security, compliance, and data management.
  • Single sign-on (SSO) and domain capture ensure that only specific user accounts have the required permissions to access any confidential data generated through Claude, avoiding problems like ChatGPT’s data leaks.

Applications for marketing and sales:

  • For marketing, Claude can analyze huge amounts of market data and consumer behavior to discover emerging trends and help develop more targeted marketing campaigns.
  • For sales, it can analyze recorded sales calls to look for patterns in successful pitches.

Potential challenges: Claude Enterprise looks to be a robust and scalable business solution, which means employee training as well as support will need to be factored into costs.

  • OpenAI’s ChatGPT Enterprise has seen significant adoption since its release in 2023, particularly among Fortune 500 companies.
  • OpenAI said Wednesday that ChatGPT has 1 million paying business users across its Enterprise, Team, and Edu subscriptions.
  • This puts pressure on Claude Enterprise to demonstrate its unique value proposition at a comparable price point.

Our take: Recent AI-related Big Tech earnings reports and Nvidia’s loss in value reflect a cautious approach to AI adoption and its ability to result in profits.

Anthropic’s entry into the enterprise market diversifies the range of available offerings, and its focus on security and privacy could help drive adoption.
