Amazon’s big plans for AI-powered Alexa overhaul hit another delay

The news: Amazon’s ambitious AI Alexa makeover—which was announced in 2023 and set for release this year—is being pushed to 2025.

It’s another sign that the company isn’t making inroads on its goal to transform Alexa into a more natural, conversational voice assistant.

The kicker? Amazon closed beta access to Alexa’s generative AI (genAI) features because of user dissatisfaction with the AI’s responses. User feedback cited stiff, irrelevant replies and hallucinations, per The Verge.
