Amazon, Hinge Health partner to connect consumers with their digital musculoskeletal benefits

The news: Amazon Health Services is adding digital musculoskeletal (MSK) care company Hinge Health to its Health Conditions Program, which consumers use to discover, determine their eligibility for, and enroll in digital health benefits offered through their employer or health insurer.

For context, Amazon rolled out its Health Conditions Program earlier this year. Hinge is the fourth company to join the program, following Omada Health, Talkspace, and Rula Health.

Why it matters: Hinge is the first digital MSK platform to join the Health Conditions Program.

Hinge’s programs are designed to prevent and treat joint and muscle pain and are a covered benefit to more than 18 million people across the US.

Key stats: Some 46% of insured adults who’ve experienced either acute pain or chronic pain within the past two years said they don’t fully understand the benefits offered by their or their spouse’s employer, per Hinge’s 2024 State of MSK Care report. And 69% say they don’t use all the health benefits available to them.

The opportunity for Hinge Health: Hinge can draw awareness to its services. Amazon’s massive consumer reach and near-constant online traffic offers a viable avenue for Hinge to not only generate awareness, but encourage enrollment.

How about Amazon? The tech titan could benefit from consumers purchasing other items as they spend time on its platform.

Hinge estimates that approximately 40% of US adults suffer from a MSK condition, including joint, back, or muscle pain. Products like pain relief patches, OTC medications, and topical creams could be hot commodities for consumers who want to learn more about their MSK benefits on Amazon.
